Psalm 55:22-23
Cast your cares on the Lord
and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous fall.
But you, O God, will bring down the wicked
into the pit of corruption;
bloodthirsty and deceitful men
will not live out half their days.
But as for me, I trust in you.
I'm always amazed how God's Word speaks to me right where I am emotionally and spiritually on any given day. This morning I heard a horrible news story about a couple that threw their newborn baby boy out the car window. Yesterday the horrible story was a brother and sister that brutally murdered their mother and grandparents to get the grandparents' life savings. Every day there are stories of such pure evil going on in the world that it stuns me. I asked my husband this morning - "Are more evil things happening in the world, or do we just hear about it more because of all the media?"
"Why?" is the big question.
With this question in mind I open my Bible this morning to this Psalm where David is asking "Why?". Not just "why?" on the global sense, but why would someone who has been close to me, someone who loved me, someone I trusted - why would they do evil to me? And the answer is not "because" or any other reason. The answer from God is "Trust Me."
Trust Him when nothing makes sense, trust Him when evil occurs, trust Him in the face of uncertainty. "Cast your cares" - fling them at God, and trust.
But as for me, I will trust in You.
